Q. How did you develop your passion for art?
I was born into the arts, my father is a sculptor and I always saw him working. I have been visiting museums and art gallery for as long as I can remember. Later on, as a teenager, I felt I wanted to be part of the art world, by opening my own art gallery. I never considered being an artist, or doing anything else.
Q.What aspects of studying at Christie’s Education did you enjoy most?
I particularly enjoyed studying art history and the ability it gave me to recontextualize the artworks I saw in the weekly visits we had at museums and auction houses. Additionally, I felt the Master's was very practical and that I was introduced to all the aspects of the art business.
Q. When did you establish your company and what does your current role involve?
I opened my gallery in late 2013, when I was interning at Christie's. I had to do everything myself and I enjoyed the process. When I started I did all the operations, right now, more and more of my time is devoted to leading my team to carry forward the key tasks necessary to run the gallery. Developing a gallery strategic vision is crucial to constantly grow the business. But what I personally love the most, is the time I spend with my artists, curators and collectors.
Q. How did your degree assist your career path?
The most crucial thing that I learned from my degree is a knowledge of art history. It has given me the ability to critically evaluate the relevance of an artist in contemporary art, a major skill, that I use every single day.
Q. What would your advice be to our current students looking to start their careers in the art world?
Try the various paths; auction houses, galleries, institutions, independent advisory. Find your way, there's no need to fit into a specific job or role. Find what you truly love to devote every day of your life to it.
