Q. What was your career before studying at Christie’s Education?

Before arriving at Christie’s Education, I’d spent my working life as a journalist, firstly in radio, then working for the best part of a decade for the BBC in London. Beginning as a general newsroom producer, I then moved to be a senior producer for the flagship BBC Breakfast show, before ending my journalistic career as an editor on the award winning daily financial news and consumer affairs show called Working Lunch.      

Q. What were your ambitions when studying with us, and how closely has your career followed them?

To be honest, I wasn’t sure exactly what my career path would be! The great thing about Christie’s Education was that it gave me both the formal art historical education, and ‘hands-on’ object based experience that is a great foundation to any career in the art world. 

Q. What aspects of studying at Christie’s Education did you enjoy most?  

I enjoyed the variety of the curriculum, from the intellectual rigor of the Modern Art Survey classes, to the more practical sessions where you learn real skills that I still use every day. 

Q. What would your advice be to our current students (specifically career changers) looking to start their careers in the art world?

Christie’s Education is a great way to investigate the possibilities of what a career in the art world can offer (it’s a lot more than just auction houses or galleries). It will equip you with the skillset and the mindset to succeed.  

Q. How should a new student make the most of their time at CE?

Never skip a class and take every opportunity to do EVERYTHING! I almost skipped Dr. Julie Reiss’ lecture on Land Art. It turned out to be one of my favorite lectures of the entire course, and as a result I have driven across the Utah desert to visit Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty in person – an amazing experience!
