Overview
From classic Chinese ceramics and iconic Japanese woodblock prints to dazzling Korean lacquerware and global contemporary art, this immersive week-long course explores the splendours of East Asian cultures through some of the greatest collections in London. With lectures and gallery tours led by distinguished scholars, curators and art market experts, students will discover how the universal appeal of East Asian art has inspired collectors over hundreds of years and continues to inspire global contemporary artists today.
Course Convenor
Dr Ivy Yi Yan Chan
Ivy Chan is an independent scholar, curator and consultant. She obtained her MA and PhD in History of Art and Archaeology from SOAS, University of London. She previously worked as a Chinese Art Specialist, Head of Sale and Associate Director at Christie’s London, and has been a regular guest lecturer at Christie's Education since 2015. She is a Council Member of the Oriental Ceramic Society in London, and has curated exhibitions, published catalogues, designed educational programmes and lectured for many distinguished museums, galleries, educational institutions and private collectors, including SOAS, the Museum of East Asian Art, the Hong Kong Palace Museum and Eskenazi Ltd. She has also authored and translated various important publications related to Chinese art and culture.
