Overview
This course offers an overview of buying photography at auction and coincides with the Photography sale at Christie’s. Geared towards the beginner to more seasoned collector or the curious photographer, this course provides the confidence to know when to raise your paddle. During the first two sessions, Alice Sachs Zimet takes a deep dive into the auction world to share the questions to ask and her top tips accumulated from over 35 years of collecting. Topics include how to bid, auction language, how to read a catalogue, condition issues, post-auction sales opportunities and benefit auctions. For Session 3, our guest speaker, Darius Himes, International Head of Photographs, Christie’s, will lead a conversation about the current state of the photography auction market and highlight lots from the upcoming photography sale.

Student Testimony
I enjoyed your recent course and think it would have been invaluable not only to people thinking of buying photographs at auction, but also to anyone thinking of starting to collect photographs. The considerations/pitfalls are pretty much the same.
