Art Basel Miami, Manifesta in Palermo and Artissima in Turin – exclusive access for master’s students

19 Dec 2018

Over the course of five days, students from our New York master’s programmes Art, Law and Business, and Modern and Contemporary Art and the Market had the opportunity to attend a range of different activities related to Art Basel Miami. This included fair and gallery tours, artist talks, and meetings with Christie’s Education alumni involved in the fair. ‘We toured their booths, whilst they introduced the fair to us. It was great to hear them speak passionately about their jobs and share their insights with students,’ said Véronique Chagnon-Burke, Academic Director of Christie’s Education, New York. Amongst the alumni was Mary Garis, Director at Garis & Hahn Gallery exhibiting at Pulse, Krysta Eder, Head of Exhibitor Relations at UNTITLED, Art., and Maeve Lawler, Assistant to the Director at Acquavella Galleries. Students appreciated the chance to have exclusive behind-the-scenes access to this market defining event and learn directly from art world insiders.

Earlier this year, students from the Art, Law and Business master’s programme in London visited Manifesta, The European Biennial of Contemporary Art in Palermo as well as Artissima, International Fair of Contemporary Art, in Turin. ‘We are always looking for art fairs and art events that will directly benefit our students in terms of their training in the institutional and commercial side of the art market,’ explained Giovanni Gasparini, Programme Director, MSc Art, Law and Business. In 2019, these students will travel to Tokyo International Art Fair in Japan to develop a broader understanding of the art world and expand their knowledge beyond the structure of the western art market.
