We are pleased to announce two new academic appointments to our London faculty. Dr Nicholas Tromans has been appointed Programme Director of a new MA in Art History and Art World Practice, launching in September 2019. Ben Street is announced as Lecturer to the MSc Art, Law and Business programme.
Dr Nicholas Tromans has held a number of academic and curatorial roles, most recently at the Watts Gallery in Surrey where he was Curator from 2013-18. A specialist in nineteenth-century British art, he has published books on the Scottish romantic painter David Wilkie, Orientalist painting, Richard Dadd and G. F. Watts. His most recent publication is a collection of essays about the poet Christina Rossetti and her relationship to art (edited with Susan Owens, Yale University Press, November 2018). Dr Tromans studied Philosophy and History of Art at Cambridge University and wrote a PhD on the Scottish painter Wilkie at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts at the University of Birmingham.
Ben Street has lectured on a range of art historical periods for the National Gallery, Tate, the Royal Academy of Arts and Dulwich Picture Gallery. He has contributed to a variety of publications, including ‘Body of Art’ and ‘Flying Too Close To The Sun’ (both Phaidon) and museum catalogues for the Royal Academy of Arts and the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, where he was curatorial consultant on the exhibition ‘The Shape of Time’ (2018). Ben is a contributing writer for Art Review, Art Quarterly and Apollo magazines and has produced interpretative guides for major exhibitions at Tate, the Royal Academy of Arts and the National Gallery.
