New Executive Education Programme ‘Owning and Investing in Art’ Launched in Partnership with the University of Luxembourg

Record-breaking prices for art has sparked interest in art as an investment. With classic investment products in decline following the financial crisis, art investment presents itself as an alternative asset class not to be underestimated. Le Freeport Luxembourg has clearly positioned Luxembourg as a hub for art and finance.

Christie’s Education is pleased to announce its partnership with the University of Luxembourg in offering a unique two-week Executive Education Programme: Owning and Investing in Art: Opportunities, Challenges and Risks. Led by expert faculty and practitioners, this programme is unique in its approach to art law and finance. It includes field visits to The European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF), Masterpiece London and Christie’s auction house.

Participants undertaking the programme will:

• learn the economics of investing, holding and trading in art works

• identify the key elements of risk and risk management related to investing, holding and trading in art works

• explore the correlation of art with more conventional asset classes in the context of a portfolio strategy

• acquire knowledge of legal, accounting and tax issues related to investing, holding and trading in art works

• understand the key contractual provisions designed to protect each party, as well as the importance of pre-contractual due diligence

• gain insight into the intellectual property and copyright rights of living and deceased artists

• explore logistics and practical issues of moving and storing artworks

• build professional networks.
