Christie’s Education Launches First-Ever Course in Chicago

22 Aug 2019

As part of Christie’s week of events and exhibitions at its Chicago gallery, marking the 40th anniversary of the world’s leading art business’s presence in this city, Christie’s Education will hold two inaugural courses in Chicago; Art Insight: Masterpieces, Makers and the Market on 18 October and A Primer in Pop Art on 19 October.

In addition, to complement the public highlights exhibitions touring around the US ahead of the 20th Century Week at Christie’s New York, Christie’s Education will be back in Los Angeles to deliver a course on 16 October led by Dr Marisa Kayyem, Programme Director of Continuing Education, and Stephen Jones, Senior Writer at Post-War and Contemporary Art at Christie’s.

“It is well-known that Christie’s is the premier art business. Christie’s Education is a unique academic centre where people passionate about art can view incredible objects first-hand and gain both historical and current insights on the art market. For those who are unable to come to New York, Christie’s Education has organized courses in other US cities to share our expertise and to extend our community of art lovers,” comments Marisa Kayyem.

Students in Chicago and Los Angeles will gain an overview of the art market, the value and validation of modern and contemporary art, as well as the art historical importance of works in the Christie’s sale. During the specialist-led walk-through, participants will be introduced to the auction highlights featuring works from 20th Century Design, Impressionist & Modern and Post-War and Contemporary Art.

Chicago was selected as the subsequent destination after launching the first-ever course in San Francisco earlier this year, aligned with the Christie’s wider series of events. Christie’s Education will continue to expand its programmes to various cities across the country to provide students with a rare opportunity to study works of art up close.
