Q. How long have you worked with your current company and what positions have you held there?

I am currently an Associate Specialist in the Post-War and Contemporary Department at Christie’s, New York, and also the cataloguer for the Evening Sale in the department. As an Associate Specialist, I am responsible for client appraisals, sourcing property for various sales, and managing client relationships. As a cataloguer, I research and inspect each lot in our Evening Sale, from measuring the works to piecing together their provenance and history, as well as working with various experts and conservators in order to ensure the work is presented at its best. I have worked at Christie’s since October 2014, where I started as a cataloguer for the E-Commerce sales.

Q. How has Christie’s Education helped your career? 

Christie’s Education acted as a stepping stone into the art world, particularly for the New York art scene and the major players involved – many of whom came to speak at our seminars. Our alumni network is also a great resource, and lots of my Christie’s Education classmates work with me at Christie’s.

Q. What was your favourite aspect about studying at Christie’s Education? 

The practicality of the courses was the most rewarding. Our connoisseurship class provided me with information that I use in my profession every day. Our research projects the same. For example, for one project we acted as an advisor for a hypothetical collector, and had to argue the market reasons we selected each work for their collection. Clients often come to us for collection advice at Christie’s, and projects like this provide practice for real-life situations.

Q. Can you describe your experience at Christie’s Education in 3 words? 

Eye-opening. Immersive. Thought-provoking. 

Q. What did Christie’s Education help you discover about New York? 

I was born in New York, so I was already aware of all of the big museums and large scale galleries. What Christie’s Education opened my eyes to were the emerging galleries and art fairs, as well as blogs and critics, that I had often overlooked as they were not in the mainstream. This has helped me keep an eye out for promising talent.

Q. What was your favourite gallery while you were studying? 

I admire many of New York’s gallery programs. My go-tos in Chelsea were Hauser & Wirth, Lehmann Maupin, Anton Kern, and David Zwirner. I also admire the programs at Clearing and Cleopatra’s in Brooklyn, as well as Eli Ping Frances Perkins and Laurel Gitlen (now closed) in the Lower East Side.

Q. Who were your favorite lecturers, either faculty or visiting speaker?

A particularly memorable speaker was Noah Horowitz, then head of the Armory show, as it was fascinating to learn about the inner mechanics of an art fair.
