Session 3: Marketing and Building Your Network and Client List (23 January 2025)

Academic Profile

Academic Profile

Nico Epstein (Sessions 1 - 4)

Nico Epstein is art advisor and educator. He is the co-founder of arbulu studio a cultural consultancy based in Lisbon. Nico is currently acquiring artworks for a burgeoning network of European and American clients. He has helped to arrange more than 20 exhibitions of contemporary art throughout Europe, New York and Hong Kong, focusing mostly on artists of his generation. Nico is a frequent lecturer on contemporary art at Christie’s Education in London where he also designed the course The Art Market Online: An Essential Guide. He has taught classes on contemporary art and its markets for Bocconi, The Courtauld, and University College London among other leading universities. Nico has been an art consultant for the Frieze fair franchise for the past five years, organising bespoke tours for their VIP clients as part of the Collect programme. 

 

Fionnuala Rogers (Session 5)

Fionnuala has been working in art law for 14 years, with extensive experience in international art advisory, museum establishment and policy and art and heritage in the Middle East. Fionnuala advises on all aspects of art law including art and antiquities transactions, due diligence and repatriation, import and export of art around the world, international touring exhibitions and sponsorship, art and technology solutions, auction guarantees, cross-border transactions, art funds and alternative investments.

Fionnuala advises a diverse range of clients including established and emerging artists, galleries and dealers, start-up art businesses and service providers, collectors and HNW individuals, as well as museums, foundations and government departments of culture in different countries. 

Fionnuala is regularly consulted on policy and legislation in relation to art and culture by international organisations and Government departments around the world. She has advised on changes in national and international law and policy in relation to artist rights, prevention of illicit trafficking, heritage preservation, revitalising cultural heritage to achieve sustainable development goals and advising on best practice to facilitate an emerging art market. 

After several years working as an art lawyer for international law firms, Fionnuala founded Canvas Art Law in 2017 which is the UK's only law firm dedicated specifically to art, culture and heritage. Canvas boasts a renowned art law practice and a dedicated due diligence practice, including former art market professionals and provenance researchers.

Fionnuala has been consistently recognised as an industry specialist, with both Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500 ranking her highly as a leading individual in this field.
