Overview

Join us online for the third edition of our popular course The Economics of the Art Market, as we investigate the relationship between art and finance in the post-pandemic global economy.

Whether buying as a passion or as investment, this course will help you understand the unique characteristics of art as an asset class and the risks and returns of the art market. You will also learn about how the art industry is being re-shaped by forces such as “digitalization” and “financialization”, and the opportunities arising from such transformation.

Conducted online over 4-Saturday mornings (Hong Kong Time), The Economics of the Art Market is led by New York-based art market expert Noah Kupferman. He is the Global Head of Business Development at Athena Art Finance, the world’s premier specialty finance art business. He has extensive experience both as a specialist in international auction houses and as a private and corporate banker. Noah frequently lectures on the intersection of commerce and fine art, having taught classes at New York University, Columbia University, Christie’s Education and Sotheby's Institute of art, among others. He has commented on the art market for The New York Times, The Far Eastern Economic Review, Grant's Interest Rate Observer, Art Info, Bloomberg and Art Market Monitor among others.

Learning Outcomes include:

  • Gain an overview of the most important aspects of the global art market and the latest developments since the pandemic;
  • Understand value creation and determination in the art market, in particular with respect to assessing risk and return in art investment in the current market condition;
  • Discover latest opportunities in the art market presented by financialization and digitalization.
