Overview

Considering a career in the arts and luxury sector? Want to know what roles exist in an auction house?

 

This summer, get up close and personal and hear stories of managers, jewellery specialists, gallerists and more, on how they forged their own career paths. Experience the art & luxury world this summer through our weekly themed programmes, from contemporary art to selling luxury and the Classics: Chinese Paintings and Works of Art.  

  

Through lectures, sharings, visits and workshops, we will give participants a clearer view of the career paths and choices for those interested in the arts and luxury sector.  Upon completion, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion, access to Christie’s Education guided CV workshops, and opportunities for guided tours during Christie’s Hong Kong Auction previews.  

  

Suitable for graduating high school students and up, with full time students eligible for 50% off.  

  

Our goal is to connect you with the art & luxury world and to assist you in your passion and career journey.

YI GAO
Programme Lead, Christie’s Education Asia Pacific

As Programme Lead of Christie’s Education Asia Pacific, Yi is responsible for developing course curricula and programme content, as well as supporting teaching, studying and recruitment. Prior to joining Christie’s, she completed her M.A. in Art, Law and Business, awarded jointly by Christie’s Education London and University of Glasgow College of Arts. 

Yi is a qualified attorney licensed to practice in New York and practiced corporate and capital markets law at the global law firm of Kirkland & Ellis. She holds a B.A. in Law from Beijing Foreign Studies University and L.L.M. from New York University School of Law. Yi has studied and worked in Beijing, Hong Kong, New York, Washington D.C. and London, and is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.


YUNHAN SUN
Junior Specialist, Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, Christie’s Asia Pacific

Yunhan Sun joined Christie’s Hong Kong in 2018 and now a Junior Specialist in the Chinese Ceramics & Works of Art Department. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Boston University and a Master of Letters in Arts of China, jointly issued by Christie’s Education and University of Glasgow. 

 

DR WANG GUANYU
Associate Curator (Antiquities) of the Art Museum, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Dr Wang is the Associate Curator (Antiquities) of the Art Museum, CUHK. She focuses on the research of the production, trade and consumption of Chinese porcelains during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and the interactions of material civilisation between the East and West in the early globalisation. Dr Wang has participated in several archaeological projects in Mainland China, with two of them awarded as the “China’s Top 10 New Archaeological Discoveries” (2006 and 2009). She has curated several exhibitions on ceramics, with the most recent "Enchanting Expeditions: Chinese Trade Porcelains across the Globe" opened in 2021 in celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the Art Museum. Dr Wang is now co-Investigating the GRF Project "Ming Princes and Porcelain: The Porcelain Production and Consumption of Princely Households in the Ming dynasty (1368–1644)" funded by the University Grants Committee.

 

LI CHUN HU 
Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art Specialist, Independent Art Consultant

Li-Chun Hu is an independent art consultant specializing in Chinese ceramics and works of art. She has a background in classical music and industrial design before receiving her Master's in Art Market & Appraisals in England. Li-Chun's profession takes her to international art auctions, and she continues to give advisory services to private collectors, dealers, and auction houses around the world. Her connoisseurship, experience, and market acumen help her source the highest quality objects for a global client base. Also, as the chairlady of World Musea Forum, Li-Chun is organizing and moderating webinars, trying to bring the museums around the world closer to everyone.

 

PONGYU WAI
Artist

Wai Pong Yu was born in Hainan Island, China in 1982. At the age of 2, he moved to Hong Kong with his parents. He graduated from the Fine Arts Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2006. Wai has developed his own oeuvre with ink from ballpoint pen on paper, spinning the thread of his emotion and mind continuously as one line as it multiplies in rhizomatic manner. His subject matter often relates to the notion of the cosmos, time, nature, across the fields of juxtapositions and metaphysical forms. He lives and works in Hong Kong. 

Wai’s work has been collected internationally by public museums and institutions including Hong Kong M+, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco and the Ashmolean Museum at the University of Oxford. His recent exhibitions include ‘Brushstrokes and Beyong’, Axel Vervoordt Gallery, Hong Kong; ‘Same Line Twice’, a collaborative project between Hung Fai and him, Grotto Fine Art, Hong Kong, 2017 , and Ink Studio, Beijing, 2020; ‘The Spirit of Ink: 12 Hong Kong Artists’ Sotheby’s Gallery, Hong Kong, 2013; ‘New Ink, An Exhibition of Ink Art by Post 1970 Artists from Yiqingzhai Collection’ Sotheby’s Gallery, Hong Kong, 2013. Solo exhibitions include ‘Moment of Truth – The Synergy of Ink’ (2013) and ‘Ceaseless Lines’ (2009) both at Grotto Fine Art, Hong Kong. His works have also been shown at Art Basel (2014-2021), Ink Asia (2015-2019), Fine Art Asia (2014-2021), Asia Week, New York (2015) and SCOPE, New York (2012, 2013).

 

YIFAWN LEE 
Publisher of Orientations  

Yifawn Lee is the publisher and editor of Orientations. In 2014, she founded Asian Art Hong Kong as a platform to provide art-related lectures and events. In 2018, she assisted in the mounting of two exhibitions, ‘The Blue Road: Mastercrafts from Persia’ at Liang Yi Museum and ‘From Two Arises Three: The Collaborative Works of Arnold Chang and Michael Cherney’ at The University Museum and Art Gallery of the University of Hong Kong. Currently, she sits on the advisory board of Liang Yi Museum and the collections committee of the Hong Kong Maritime Museum. She holds a BA in East Asian Languages and Cultures from Columbia University and a MSc in Economic History from the London School of Economics.
