Our Exclusive Collaboration with the Faculty of Arts of the University of Hong Kong

26 Apr 2019

Following three previously successful collaborations, the Faculty of Arts of the University of Hong Kong and Christie's Education are joining forces again this year to offer Contemporary Asian Art: An Insider’s View, running from 20 – 24 May 2019 in Hong Kong. Led by renowned experts in the field, this five-day programme is designed for those who wish to begin or deepen their engagement with the art world, whether through collecting or developing careers in the field.

Sara Mao, Director, Christie’s Education Asia, said: “The art history element of the programme is developed by the world-class Faculty of Arts of the University of Hong Kong, while the market-related portion is delivered by Christie’s Education lecturers. We begin by introducing informed approaches to looking at art, and proceed to examine the mechanisms of the market and the power of mega-art events and institutions to shift cultural landscapes.

This programme is designed to be practical and interactive. Apart from the seminar series, a substantial portion of the educational activities will be held outside the classroom. Through visiting different art spaces, examining original works of art, and having conversations with industry insiders, this programme provides a broad spectrum of views into the world of contemporary Asian art.

Dr Yeewan Koon, Associate Professor, the Department of Fine Arts, the University of Hong Kong, commented: “A common question often asked is: What is good art? Although there are no clear answers, there are steps for those who want to learn how to look at art in an informed manner. In this programme, we provide fundamental learning tools including how to look, describe and write about artworks, and the different cultural contexts that have shaped art practices in the region.”

Eligible students can apply for scholarships in the format of a reduced fee until the end of April. Special rates for groups of three or more are also available. Further information, including programme and registration details, is available on the website of Christie’s Education and the Faculty of Arts, HKU

Programme details are subject to change.
Seminars, discussions, and programme materials will be in English.
